RETIRED - NWT Pendelton North Trail Blanket. Only removed from box to photograph. The North Trail Blanket is a tribute to the historic Old North Trail that runs along the Rockey Mountains from Canada to New Mexico. For 10,000 years Native Americans have traveled its length - first on foot, then with dog-pulled travios and later on horses. According to Blackfeet Chief Brings-Down-the-Sun, its route followed by great tribes on yearly journey from their nothern hunting grounds to their southern winter encampments.

Traces of the trail can be seen today in locations east of Choteau, Montana, close to where the city of Helena now stands. The North Trail Blanket design includes traditional Native American symbols -- arrows crossed in friendship and peace, directional crosses and mountains -- woven shades of green, red and gold on black.
